A: Try I do, Chris, yet I reliably fail at keeping that thing updated. The odd thing is that I frequently have something on my mind, yet never find the time to write it down. I guess I'm too busy drawing and drinking.
On the subject of spring skiing, the season here in Telluride is firmly teetering on the fence. Ever since I returned from Hawaii the weather has been quite cyclical above and below the freezing mark. The mountain is pretty rigid now, catching a a lot of us lazy bums by surprise, and the backcountry has been through a series of extremely dangerous transitional periods. I would venture to say the overall skiing ability of the Telluride community this winter has decreased on account of the forgiving conditions. You don't see too many people complaining, but the bubble has certainly burst. March is historically the snowiest month, but this whole season has bucked just about every trend they've bothered to keep track of, including the one I just mentioned. No major storms yet, although Aspen got a foot and a half last week. We just barely missed that one, which actually fits more within what Telluride has come to expect over the years. The town could more accurately be described as "home to the storm that could've been."
With respect to the state of the world, I'm in the dwindling camp of the optimists. In spite of record oil prices, record Euro to USD exchange rates, a canadian dollar worth more than ours, and an impending trip to croatia where I expect to lose it all, life is pretty good. I'm still here for one, the winter's been great, and my life (I assume) isn't even halfway over. There are still things out there to get excited about. But if you're thinking about partying in Grand Junction, CO I would advise against it. Unless you want to lose your underwear.
